Build a Career in International Shipping

Our Trainees are primarily engaged at our company head office in Copenhagen, although increasingly also in some of our regional offices namely in Singapore and Santiago, Chile.

Programme content

A traineeship at Ultrabulk is built up around an intensive two year program consisting of both in-house theoretical and practical training.

The trainee program is developed in cooperation with other members of the Danish Ship Owners Association. As part of your traineeship, you will participate in the International Commercial Shipping Programme with other Shipping Trainees from Denmark and abroad. Here you will learn about Maritime Economics, Maritime Law, Negotiation Technique with a total of four weeks of class room sessions.     

Besides class room sessions the program consists of e –learning and on the job training with the aim of providing you with a profound knowledge of all aspects of shipping. 

The two years are normally split up into periods within three main areas of shipping namely; chartering (sales), operations & fuel procurement (practical tasks) and operations control (back-office support). During this period there will also be a period of posting abroad in Chile and potentially in Germany.


Once you have completed the programme

Having completed the traineeship, you will normally invest some time in the commercial head office in Copenhagen enhancing your abilities before being stationed abroad for a period. After graduation our Shipping Trainees are usually offered a position within chartering or operation and in the years that follow a career and rotation plan assures ongoing development.

Educational requirements

  • Danish HHX or STX combined with the so-called ‘HHX-fagpakke’.

Do you have the right mix of competences?

Your personal qualifications and mindset are almost as important as your educational background.

  • Good mathematic skills, level B as a minimum 
  • Good English communication skills 
  • Craftsmanship and business acumen
  • Open- minded team-player with good social skills
  • It is an advantage if you have worked, studied or lived abroad
