A few months have passed since our 11 new Environmental Ambassadors completed their training. But what happened after the training and how has it affected their day-to-day work? We have spoken with two Ambassadors, Jonathan Andrew Rogers, Operations Executive in Singapore, and Tobias Deichmann Mortensen, Head of Continent/Mediterranean in Copenhagen, to find out.
Insights that inspire
Both Ambassadors have experienced a new inspiration and motivation for promoting maritime decarbonisation. After completing the training, Jonathan and Tobias found themselves more inspired and motivated to integrate sustainability into their daily tasks.
Jonathan reflected on the value of the training:
“The programme offered a great mix of relevant topics and boosted my confidence in understanding regulations, technology and challenges. It was important to hear about our ongoing and upcoming plans and initiatives. After completing the training, I felt motivated to share this knowledge with my colleagues in Singapore.”
Tobias shared how the training has inspired him in his daily work:
“As regional legislation is becoming an integral part of Chartering tasks, it is increasingly important to remain curious and stay up to date with new knowledge, building on the insights gained from the training. I have been sharing knowledge with colleagues across offices and teams, while helping integrate sustainability into everyday decision-making across our organisation.”
Turning knowledge into action
The training programme provided new knowledge for Tobias, directly linked to our GHG strategy, particularly within three areas:
“As Environmental Ambassadors, I believe it to be our responsibility to support the Ultrabulk GHG strategy. The training tapped into the aspects of Industry collaboration, Culture and Regulations. For Industry collaborations, it is now easier to identify potential collaboration partners that support the path to maritime decarbonisation, and to promote our own endeavours towards potential partners. On the culture aspect, we, as Ambassadors, have a task in supporting the internal culture to prioritise GHG impact in our daily work and decisions – I have had valuable discussions with my colleagues on how to do so. Externally, it is a priority to communicate that we ‘walk the talk’ in daily operations. For the regulations part, the training has enabled me to highlight internally what to be aware of in certain trades and given a better base knowledge of what to pick up going forward. And this is just to name a few examples.”
Jonathan emphasised the importance of applying this knowledge to his role:
“As I work in our Singapore office, understanding current and upcoming regulations is crucial. Many of these only apply to the EU region, so gaining a more comprehensive understanding was important as we will see more regions follow similar rules. The knowledge from the training has also allowed me to discuss environmental challenges with visitors in our office on a more comprehensive level.”
At Ultrabulk, we are proud to see how our Environmental Ambassadors are turning knowledge into practice – sharing insights across teams, promoting sustainability in decision-making, and building stronger collaborations with clients and partners. Their efforts contribute directly to our journey towards maritime decarbonisation, fostering a more sustainable maritime industry.
